Using a test pulse on the treatment area, we’ll check for strength, your comfort level, and any other adverse reactions. The laser emits a concentrated beam of light (pulses of infrared diode energy) that transfers directly into heat or thermal energy, damaging the follicle (the area from which hair grows). The follicle absorbs the light attracted to the hair’s pigment and instantly zaps it away, damaging and making it difficult for the hair follicle to function. This targeted damage reduces and prevents future hair growth while protecting the skin and tissue surrounding the hair. There may be an occasional sulfurous or burning smell because hair contains keratin, which is composed of large amounts of cysteine, an amino acid containing sulfur.
