At Premier Medical Aesthetics, we use Restylane® fillers, or dermal fillers, to add lost volume and fullness back into areas of the face and hands. Formulated to act like your body’s own naturally occurring hyaluronic acid, the line of Restylane products smooths away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, enhances lips, adds lift and volume to cheeks, and adds volume back to the hands. The difference between each of the products is the unique particle size for customized treatments. For fine wrinkles and detailed shaping, we use finer particles, and for the treatment of moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, we use medium-sized particles. For severe wrinkles and more significant volume needs, we use larger particles. Our goal is to reverse the signs of aging and create a natural, more youthful-looking appearance.

What Is Restylane?

As we age, combined with environmental influences, fat begins to deteriorate, causing sagging skin, wrinkles, and volume loss. Skin becomes thinner and no longer looks plump and smooth. Through nonsurgical injections beneath the skin, Restylane, formerly known as Perlane-L®, uses hyaluronic acid gel to correct lost volume; treat wrinkles in the face and hands; and lip augmentation. Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the body to retain moisture, fullness, elasticity, and maintains hydration in the skin. It helps add fullness to the cheeks; the midface area or nasolabial folds (also known as smile or laugh lines); marionette lines; perioral wrinkles; and the back of the hands. Treatments are minimally invasive with the use of an ultrafine needle and typically take less than an hour. Restylane will help restore a natural-looking appearance as it maintains your facial expressions and movements to help keep you looking like a younger-looking version of you.

If you bruise or swell easily, consider taking over-the-counter (OTC) Arnica tablets (a homeopathic remedy) before your injection date. Most health and nutritional supplement stores carry Arnica. Follow the label’s directions for use.

The Big Day

Arrive at your Restylane appointment with a clean face. Please do not wear makeup. Before your procedure, we will thoroughly cleanse your face and we may apply a topical anesthetic medication. You may experience a mild amount of tenderness or sting during your injections. Redness and swelling are normal with some possible bruising.

Please report to our office any increased pain, swelling, redness, blisters, or itching following your treatment.

Do not massage, manipulate, touch, press, or rub the treated area for six hours following treatment unless directed otherwise. Doing so could cause irritation.

You may resume normal activities, but avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Avoid wearing makeup until the day after your Restylane treatment. Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds. Make sure to apply a high-quality SPF sunscreen. If you don’t have one, we will make a recommendation based on your skin type.

To decrease bruising and swelling, you can apply a cool compress to the treated area but avoid firm pressure. (20 minutes every 2 hours except when sleeping)

The First 2 Days

You may start any previously used blood-thinning or anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Aleve), aspirin, vitamins A & E, Ginkgo Biloba, or essential fatty acids (flaxseed, omega 3, fish oil supplements).

The First Week

You may have some swelling and mild tenderness. You may take acetaminophen (Tylenol) if you are experiencing any discomfort. To help decrease bruising, continue to take Arnica tablets, following the label’s directions for use.

How Does IT Work?

To fight signs of aging, Restylane adds volume and fullness to reveal a younger-looking you. It smoothes moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, enhances lips, and plumps the back of the hands using injectable hyaluronic acid.

Used to treat wrinkles, Restylane Lyft is a dermal filler with hyaluronic acid, a plumping substance naturally found in the body, lidocaine to minimize any pain, and water. Using a fine-needle syringe, we can add lift to the cheeks, smooth smile lines, and add volume to the back of the hands. The hyaluronic acid works quickly to plump up the skin and lasts for 8-10 months.

For a smoother, natural-looking lip augmentation, Restylane Silk, uses smaller hyaluronic acid particles to smooth away the wrinkles around the mouth. It combats the signs of aging like lip thinning, lost shape, and increased vertical lines above the lips.

Restylane Refyne uses a unique cross-linking gel to maintain movement and expressions like smiling, frowning, and even puckering. As skin loses its elasticity, it corrects the folds that run from the sides of your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). It also reduces the appearance of lines that run from your mouth’s corners toward your chin (marionette lines).

Restylane Defyne helps to correct and smooth out deep laugh lines (nasolabial folds and marionette lines) while maintaining your facial expressions for natural-looking results.

The Restylane line of products from Galderma feature a range of dermal fillers comprised of different-sized particles of hyaluronic acid. This unique formulation allows the flexibility to tailor your injectable treatments for a natural range of facial expressions. For detailed shaping and to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, finer particles are used. Medium-sized particles for moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. For severe wrinkles and to restore lost volume, larger particles are used.

Restylane Defyne is an injectable filler formulated to treat deeper nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Though these laugh lines are likely a result of a happy life, they don’t help hide our age. Restylane Defyne will generally last up to 12 months.
Restylane Refyne is designed to treat mild to moderate nasolabial folds (laugh lines) and marionette lines found around the chin, leaving you with a more youthful appearance.

Designed to offer natural lip augmentation, Restylane Silk can also treat wrinkles found around the mouth. Finally, everyone can enjoy silkier, smoother, natural-looking lips.

Restylane Lyft is a thicker hyaluronic acid formula that lasts around 9–12 months. Ask your clinician which filler is most appropriate for your needs.
Though Restylane was not designed to build collagen, it may stimulate new collagen growth in response to treatment.
Typically, filler procedures require no downtime. We ask you to follow our post-treatment guidelines to ensure your safety and the success of your treatment. It is normal to experience some discomfort, swelling, bruising, or tenderness after receiving filler injections. These symptoms will generally disappear over the next few weeks.
Your body absorbs dermal fillers over time. Small tune-ups or maintenance treatments called “top-up treatments” are suggested to keep your new-found beauty fresh. These follow-up treatments are usually scheduled somewhere between 4–9 months post-procedure.
Dermal fillers are designed to mimic your body’s hyaluronic acid production. This means results are immediate, and you will leave our offices with a more youthful appearance.

Before any procedure can be administered, you must have a consultation. Your consultation is an opportunity to discuss what aesthetic goals you want to achieve. Furthermore, this is the appropriate time to discuss any medical conditions you may have or had in the past.
Generally, a specific facial zone will take about 10 minutes to treat. If you intend to have multiple areas filled, you can expect the procedure to take longer.
One of our licensed clinicians will disinfect the area(s) to be treated. Once your skin is ready for the procedure, a Restylane filler product will be injected using a fine needle or micro-cannula to fill and shape your face and lips. If necessary, your practitioner might gently massage your skin to even out a treated area.
A filler procedure’s lifespan depends much on the type of filler used, the treated area, and your body’s biology. You can expect most fillers to last somewhere between 6–9 months. Restylane has been proven to last up to 36 months in some individuals.
Some individuals may experience some mild discomfort. Most Restylane fillers contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic used to manage pain. If you find the procedure much too uncomfortable, we can apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area.
As time passes, your body slowly absorbs hyaluronic acid fillers, causing the affected areas to lose the fullness. Top-up treatments are low volume injections applied to the treated areas to maximize your skin’s beauty. With top-up treatments, Restylane has been proven to last up to 36 months.
Avoid applying makeup in the first 24 hours post-procedure. If you are showing signs of bruising, we suggest using a concealer with a yellow tone. To hide redness, consider using a concealer with a sight greenish-yellow hue.

It is unlikely that you will experience any downtime or side effects. Some individuals may experience some tenderness, mild bruising, or minor swelling post-procedure. Gently icing the irritated area may help to soothe any discomfort.

Not to worry. You can have a drink after receiving Restylane injections. Just make sure to drink responsibly. We want to see you for your follow-up treatments.
Yes. During the weeks immediately following treatment, any redness, swelling, or bruising will diminish, revealing a new, refreshed you. As time passes, you may consider a top-up procedure to restore maximum fullness.
These are all high-quality fillers and are similar in nature. Each dermal filler brings its unique advantages to achieve great results. If uncertain, ask your clinician which filler product is best for you.

Because Restylane has not undergone testing on pregnant and breastfeeding women, we do not recommend the procedure. Besides, you are likely already glowing with a host of hormones that would make any of your peers jealous.
Common side effects include swelling, bruising, redness, discomfort, and tenderness. These symptoms should clear up in a few days but can last up to a couple of weeks. Make sure to discuss potential side effects and treatment risks with your healthcare practitioner.
You should avoid injectable fillers if you have a history of severe allergic reactions to lidocaine or hyaluronic acid. Allergic reactions like anaphylaxis are serious and could be life-threatening. People with bleeding disorders and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should also avoid Restylane injections.
